Warhammer Fest 2021 Day 6 - Hunt the Enemies of Sigmar
There were so many options for what today's reveals could be. Could it be Age of Sigmar v3.0? Could we get to see some more of The Old World? Or, could the Thunderhawk Gunship in Adeptus Imperialis be a bluff, and we actually get to see a full-sized one today? I also pondered whether they'd announce something like Hasbro Pulse, where they announce big projects to gage interest, and it's only produced if enough people commit to buying it. Through that we've seen releases such as a new HeroQuest (I'll review this when it's out), and Jabba's Sail Barge. Could something like this work for Games Workshop, and allow them to produce things that could otherwise be a risk? It'd be like a ForgeWorld with less risk (and in this case less resin).
Today it started off with a solemn note, to mention the passing of Richard Halliwell, the co-creator of Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Space Hulk to mention the most notable works. Other house-keeping included details of Golden Daemon returning in 2022, and other events would be returning soon with a US roadshow.
It was then revealed that Age of Sigmar version 3 would be on it's way at the end of the Broken Realms, and a reveal of the new models that will be released with it. First up is Yndrasta, the Celestial Spear, for the Stormcast Eternals. It's an incredible model with so much detail. She's dual wielding spears, and has magnificent wings spread out behind her. Even the scenic base is nice with ruined stairs, a bit of wall, and a branch.
Chaos had won, and the Stormcast have lost their ability to reforge following the events of Be'lakor. They now have reinforcements in the form of Vindictors. I've held off on getting any Stormcast Eternals other than some of those with the Mortal Realms partworks from Hachette as I didn't like the look of most. The Vindicators look so much better though, they look almost like they could have existed in the real world, like they could easily be somewhere between a Roman Gladiator and a knight from the middle ages. Some of the poses are perfect for producing a shield wall as well.
A heavier version of these is an Annihilator with Meteoric Hammer. These are big chunky versions of the Stormcast Eternals, which I could best describe as being an amalgamation of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. We then got to see some of the artwork from the rulebook, and a map of where this edition will take place.
We didn't get to see the boxed game, or who their adversaries would be, but we were teased about the future. Who could it be? An undead force such as the Tomb Kings? There will be more previews from them this month…
